Bio

Emery Adanich is a local artist who was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA). While at CIA, Emery studied under famous artist and designer Viktor Schreckengost. Under Viktor’s guidance he learned the fine art of balance in design, which you can see in Emery’s work today. He has worked in many disciplines of art over the years, including painting, enameling, computer graphics, furniture design, interior space design as well as various in materials like, plastic, ceramics, metal, paper and wood.

One of his favorite mediums currently is wood. Emery is drawn to the challenge of designing a piece that uses and enhances the natural beauty of the wood. The wood and its natural character drive each piece. You can see how he has mastered his medium in his work, which includes jewelry boxes, pens, clocks, whimsical Christmas ornaments and most recently his green turned bowls.

Each turned piece goes through a two turning process to become the finished product. It is first rough turned in its fresh cut, or green wood state and then is soaked in denatured alcohol for 24 hours to start the drying process. It is then removed and wrapped for a minimum of a two week drying time before the final turning.

Emery creates his work from his home studio in Parma, Ohio, where he lives with his wife, Susan and their dog Ebony.
